Palacio Nacional de Sintra is one of Sintra's many palaces and dates back to the 15th century. The huge site contains the magnificent Sala dos Cisnes (Swan Room) inside, which is definitely worth a visit, the octagonal room is a beguiling delight, embellished with frescos of 27 gold-collared swans.

Museu das Artes de Sintra is a modern art museum with nearly eighty percent of the works displayed inside coming from local artists. The small collection of artwork presents visitors with an amazing insight into the city's art scene by featuring artists native to Portugal.

The fishing town of Cascais provides views of the stunning coastline amongst delightful 19th century architecture. Boca do Inferno is a seaside cave located west of Cascais, in an ideal spot for watching the sunset and sunrise over the turquoise waters and scenic rocks.
